Golden time for great work!
- We had super fun trying out the new games in our classroom. We’ve been working really hard and this was a well deserved reward.
Getting to know you……
- We spoke about our favourite things in SPHE. We found our partner using a number game and then shared all the important information about our favourite toy with each other.
- We then had to report back to the class all about our partner’s toy.
Funny Bones.
- Having learned all about our bones, we made our own simple X Ray hands.
- We are all set in First Class to cheer on our Kilkenny Camogie Team in the All Ireland Final on Sunday.

Egg Hunt
Our Easter Egg hunt was great fun!

We had great fun doing 10 minutes exercise at 10am on Friday with Senior Infants!
Wonderful Waltzing!
- This week, we learned another very useful skill…..how to waltz!
- We really enjoyed waltzing around our classroom and the hall with our dance partners.
Sugar Plum takes to the stage!
- We really enjoyed performing ‘Sugar Plum’ on stage for our Christmas Concert.
A very special visitor!!
- We were so surprised and excited when we heard Santa’s bell ringing throughout the school.
- He came into our classroom and told us all how he was just about ready to pack his sleigh and come down our chimneys on Christmas Eve.
- His helpful elf gave us all some treats before they left.
Halloween!
Our Fantastic First Term!
- We are well settled into First Class and what a busy, fun time we are having.
- We are all working so hard – Miss Fitzgerald is very impressed and proud of us.

All Ireland Supporters.
- We started off our year getting ready to cheer on the Kilkenny hurlers on All Ireland Final Day.
Autumn.
- We are really enjoying seeing all of the changes autumn is bringing. We make sure to keep some autumn in our classroom with our lovely, colourful autumn table.
- Darragh brought in some crab apples and Miss Fitzgerald surprised us with some homemade crab jelly jam and biscuits – they were yummy!
- Sarah and Jamie planted pumpkin seeds in their granny’s garden last June. They grew to be giant pumpkins which we are lucky enough to have in our classroom now.
Our Favourite Things.
- We learned lots about one another when we brought in a favourite item from home. We had to find the person with the same number as us and then chat, listen to and report back to the rest of the class about it.
Tree Day.
- Tree day was on Thursday 6th We went outside and looked very closely at the big tree beside the Junior yard and filled in lots of information about it in our Tree Day activity pack.
- Our autumn trees are very colourful on the wall outside of our classroom.
Recorder.
- We started recorder for the first time this year. We have our lesson with Margaret every Friday and we are doing super work. Wait until you hear us play at the summer concert in June!
Experiments.
- We have been busy with experiments also.
- We learned lots of new facts about our bones. You can see our X- Ray hands in the photographs.
- We are just after planting cress seeds so we will have to keep a close eye on their progress. We made a green house to cover one. We want to see if this will help the seeds to grow or stop them from growing.
2015/2016
Signs of Spring.
- Spring has arrived and our spring table is looking very busy indeed!
- We have been learning all about the Blue Whale and Neil Armstrong’s famous moon landing in 1969.
Christmas Rhyme
We were fantastic in our Christmas Concert!
November News!
- November brought winter into our classroom. We completed our lovely winter scene and penguin parade.
- Our winter table is looking very sparkly and cosy. We love bringing in winter items from home to add to it.
- We had great fun in maths when we learned all about length. We worked in pairs to estimate and then measure the length of different things.
- We have been taking a closer look at food and why it is so important. We discovered the food pyramid and even had a go at making our own!
- We did a great experiment using our senses. Our sense of sight was taken away so we had to rely on our senses of smell, touch and taste to figure out what exactly Miss Fitzgerald was feeding us!
Food Tasting!
Onwards and Upwards in October!
Now that we are well settled into First Class, we continued to do lots of interesting things in October.
- We were able to have fun P.E lessons outside in the bright autumn weather.
- We learned our first notes on our recorders with Margaret. We will be great musicians by the time we have our summer concert!

- We learned all about bats and our bones. We then got to do a fun ‘X Ray Hands’ experiment.
- We made lovely Clara hats to cheer on our fantastic team last weekend
- We brought a taste of autumn trees indoors with our beautiful art work.
- Finally, we gave Miss Fitzgerald a big scare on Halloween dress up day when we dressed up in our amazing costumes. Happy Halloween everyone!
Maths Week.
We had great fun during maths week.
- We played lots of interesting games and we went outside for a maths trail.
- Fifth class created an excellent maths game for us. We had to break the code to complete a poem. We really enjoyed it and fifth class were super at helping us figure it all out!

It’s off to work we go!
September has been a very busy month in First Class. Take a look at some of our work.
- We painted and completed our first storyboard based on the story ‘The Unscary Scarecrow’.
- We also did some very colourful scarecrows of our own.
- The percussion box spent a few days in our classroom and we had great fun keeping the beat to some of our favourite songs.
- The I Pads are up and running again and we got to play some very interesting maths games.
- Autumn has arrived and our autumn table is looking very colourful. It is never bare because we are so good at bringing signs of autumn in to it.
- We also shared our first drámaíocht Gaeilge with the other classes and teachers.
- We can’t wait to see what October brings!

Welcome to First Class!
- We are all delighted to be back in school and are so excited to be in First Class.
- We are now in school until 3 o’clock!
- Here we are on our first day in Rang a hAon and we are already working really hard.
- Welcome back everyone!

Busy Bees for the summer term!
We have been keeping busy again this term.
We looked at Neil Armstrong’s visit to the moon, followed by a trip down the yellow brick road with Dorothy and her friends.
Our summer table is looking really bright and cheerful.
On Thursday 28th May we had a super day on our school tour. We went to Tayto Park with second class and everybody had great fun. We arrived home with lots of good memories and of course our free packet of Tayto!
The Easter Bunny is out and about!
- We got a lovely Easter treat today when we went outside to do our Easter Egg Hunt.
- We had a few clues to figure out but it was easy when we worked as a team.
- We also made some cute Easter Bunny cups to store our treats in.
- Happy Easter!!
Fraction Fun!
- We did lots of work recently on dividing things into two equal parts.
- We know that this fraction is called a half.
- We played a fun game sorting the shapes and combining the two halves to make one whole shape.

Spórt le Gaeilge.
- Bhí an-spórt again ag déanamh abairtí Gaeilge.
- Chuireamar roinnt focail le chéile agus bhí ár n-abairtí ar fheabhas!
Hola!
- We have been learning all about Spain in Geography.
- We learned some fun facts about life in Spain.
- The tooth mouse visits children in Spain and people enjoy watching bull fighting and flamenco dancing. Some people even take a nap in the afternoon. This is called a siesta.
- Some of us brought in Spanish items to show everyone.
- Our display board has lots more information on it for you to see!
Wonderful Waltzing!
We have been learning how to waltz in Rang a hAon this week. We know all about the ‘123,123’ count. We had great fun and are just about ready for ‘Strictly Come Dancing!’
Measuring Fun.
- We had great fun estimating and then measuring the length and width of different objects in our classroom.
Winter in Rang a hAon.
- A little bit of winter has found its way into our classroom with our latest storyboard and our winter table.

- We even had two Mr Mulrooneys in school for the day!

Maths Attack For Maths Week!
Look what we’ve been up to….
- Autumn has been a very busy time for us. We did some lovely colourful autumn trees which we are really proud of.
- We have also been learning all about bats as hibernating season gets closer.
- We did a fun ‘Muscle Experiment’ to see how our muscles get tired when we use them. Did you know that you use 43 muscles in your face when you frown and only 17 when you smile? We all think it’s better to smile!

- Now that we know so much about our skeleton and our bones, we decided to take a look at what lies beneath our skin.
Food Glorious Food!
- We have been learning about our senses in Rang a hAon.
- We did a really fun tasting experiment to see how well we know our tastes when our sense of sight is taken away!
- We did very well and nobody was in any doubt about the last taste……..CHOCOLATE!!

The Unscary Scarecrow.
- We’re all settled back into school and Rang a hAon have been very busy so far this autumn.
- Farmer Bramble is in bother again. The crows are back eating his wheat.
- Our fantastic storyboard tells the story of the Unscary Scarecrow.
- We all worked together and made this fantastic display. We’re very happy with it!
Signs of Autumn.
- Our autumn table is looking very colourful with all of the lovely leaves, fruits and berries that we have been gathering and bringing into school. We’re a little bit like the squirrel and the hedgehog!

- Rang a hAon are all set and ready to cheer on the hurlers on Sunday.
2013/2014
Tayto Park
- We had a super day at TaytoPark last Friday. First we got a tour of the Tayto Factory where two million packets of Tayto are made every day!
- Ciara, our tour guide, showed us all of the animals in the park -it was like being in the zoo!
- After lunch we got to choose two activities which was great fun.
- We finished off our day playing in the Pow Wow Playground before returning to our bus with our Taytos!
- We were all tired but happy when we got home.
Look who came to visit!
- Emily brought her pet hamster Hammy into visit us today.
- Hammy is only one year old.
- She likes to eat lots of food like sunflower seeds, worms, fruit and vegetables. Her favourite drink is water.
- Hammy usually sleeps during the day and is awake during the night.
- She made a special effort this morning and stayed awake for us to meet her.
- She even came out of her nice, snug bed to show us some tricks on the wheel in her cage.
- Hammy also loves to climb. She had great fun climbing along the bars of her cage, holding on tight with her claws and nibbling the bars with her sharp teeth!
- We had great fun watching Hammy and were delighted she came to visit.
Look out, Look out!
The Easter Bunny’s about!
- We had great fun today going on our Easter Egg Hunt.
- When we found our eggs we put them into our Easter Bunny cups – with a few extra treats.
- We love Easter in First Class!

BINGO!!
- This week, we took a closer look at how busy the farmer is in spring.
- We learned lots of interesting facts about life on the farm during the spring months.
- We really enjoyed our ‘Farmyard Bingo’ game today.
- We knew when the speaking card came our way that it was our turn to be the múinteoir – we all enjoyed taking a turn at this!
Pancóga i Rang a hAon!
- Today is Pancake Tuesday and we got to enjoy some tasty pancóga in school.
- The ovens heated them up for us and then we got to add yummy chocolate spread to them.
- They were delicious!
- Mr Mulrooney even got to taste one when he came in with a message.
Spring in Rang a hAon.
- We are enjoying looking out for all the signs of spring.
- We have a lovely spring table in our classroom to remind us of what spring looks like.
- Daniel brought in some frogspawn for our spring table. We will be keeping a close eye as it grows into tadpoles.
Look what we’ve been doing…
- We had great fun joining Dorothy on her trip to Oz where we met all of her new friends.
- We have a really colourful Wizard of Oz storyboard in our classroom.
- The night sky is such an interesting thing to look at. We have learned lots about stars, constellations and the man in the moon!
- We also looked at the work of a very interesting French artist named Henri Matisse. He developed a very interesting art form called ‘Drawing With Scissors’. We did a fantastic job creating our own pieces.
Fun with Fractions!
Here we are having lots of fun matching two halves of a shape to make one whole piece.

Winter Wonderland.
Welcome to our winter wonderland! We have been very busy decorating our classroom with signs of winter.
‘One Winter’s Day’ is our winter story board. Little hedgehog showed us all how nice it is to be kind to others. We love the colours on our masterpiece!
The ‘Winter Table’ reminds us that winter can be cold, snowy and of course sparkly.
Art Work: We had great fun with paint and glitter painting our winter trees.
We also love our penguin parade – made from our very own footprints.
Masterchefs!!
- In our English writing this week we wrote about icing buns.
- It sounded so tasty we decided to try it ourselves.
- Miss Fitzgerald had a busy night baking buns and then we got to do the fun bit in school. Yummy!

Spooktacular Halloween!
- Miss Fitzgerald had a difficult job recognising us in our Halloween costumes.
- Senior Infants very kindly invited us in to watch ‘Room on a Broom’ – Miss Fitzgerald and Mrs Murphy made some yummy popcorn in their cauldrons!!
Up for the match!!
Our classroom and school was a sea of maroon and white today. We are very excited about the county final on Sunday. Up Clara!

Without our skeleton we would be a blob!
- We have been learning all about our skeleton and our bones.
- We did a really fun experiment where we took our own hand x-ray.
- Firstly, we each put on a glove and then we followed and traced over our bones with a black marker.
- We liked the result – especially when it is so close to Halloween!
- We also used what we learned about bones to create pasta skeletons in art.
Making music.
Here we are enjoying our recorder class with Margaret. We are really enjoying learning how to play it.
Autumn Trees.
We think our autumn trees are beautiful. We worked very carefully and got great results!
Super sense of taste in First Class!!
▪ We learned all about our five senses in Science recently.
▪ We then did a really fun experiment to see how good we were at recognising food when our sense of sight was gone.
▪ Miss Fitzgerald brought in a great selection of food.
▪ We touched and tasted the food and then predicted what each one might be.
▪ Some were nicer than others!
▪ We did really well.
▪ Our favourite…….that would have to be the chocolate at the very end.

Poor Farmer Bramble isn’t very happy on our story board. Those pesky crows are eating his wheat.
Bringing Autumn Inside
Our autumn table looks lovely with the colourful leaves and berries we have collected.
Moving to the Beat
We got to show our cool dance moves in class last week. Miss Fitzgerald was very impressed!
Scarecrow Season
We worked very carefully to make our lovely scarecrows this autumn.
Healthy Minds and Healthy Bodies!
We have learning all about our bodies and how important it is to look after ourselves and get exercise – like we do in P.E.
We had great fun keeping the beat to our favourite songs today.
School Tour
We had great fun on our school tour to Causey Farm. It was a great day and we really loved bog jumping!
Busy Bees.
We have been very busy in First Class. Diarmuid brought in some frogspawn while we learned all about the frog.
We loved hearing about Neil Armstrong walking on the moon and discovering some very interesting facts about the stars in the night sky.
Mixing Magic!
We discovered that not all things mix with each other.
We predicted the results before doing the experiments.
Sugar and salt mixed with warm water – we couldn’t see them in the water.
However…….the oil stayed sitting on top of the water.
We added food colouring at the end for fun!!
Will it float or will it sink?
Before we placed each item on the water, we predicted whether it would float or sink.
We recorded our prediction and then we watched…….
We did very well with our predictions!
Static Electricity
We had great fun learning all about static electricity recently.
The small pieces of paper moved like magnets onto the balloon!
We broke the static electricity on the balloon by rubbing water on it.
The static electricity on the two balloons kept pushing them away from each other.
Christmas Concert
Raindrops keep falling on my head…..
We decided to keep track of how much rain was falling. We made a rain gauge and put it out the front of the school. We checked it every day and recorded it.

After learning the song from ‘The Sound of Music’, we then shared our own favourite things with each other.
First class have been very busy since September. We followed the yellow brick road with Dorothy and her friends before taking a closer look at where we live ourselves.
